January 16th Poem: Prayer

If meals open with a prayer thankful in nature,
then why don't your prayers end with nourishment and gratitude?

If you fold your hands neatly, interlacing and tight-knit,
then why don't your fingers find mine with the same ease?

If your satisfaction is not met,
then why should mine suffer, too?

If days run into years,
then why does time stand still when I'm with you?

If dreams end with eyes open,
then why must eyes close upon themselves to seek vision?

I guess these are things prayers may not answer.
