Land Grab
Before you've learned to move,
you stick a hand out
and pull the world towards you.
Baubles, workaday objects,
to things we have released,
to be in the world of objects.
Then when you can move,
and, imbued with the spirit of
used napkins, lids, sticky cables,
you make things happen,
and it still makes sense to
reach and not move.
I wear contacts now,
a full year of true periphery leased.
I've waved my arms around,
called upon my ideas,
watched them ping back,
pinned as they are,
to the edge of my sightline.
you stick a hand out
and pull the world towards you.
Baubles, workaday objects,
to things we have released,
to be in the world of objects.
Then when you can move,
and, imbued with the spirit of
used napkins, lids, sticky cables,
you make things happen,
and it still makes sense to
reach and not move.
I wear contacts now,
a full year of true periphery leased.
I've waved my arms around,
called upon my ideas,
watched them ping back,
pinned as they are,
to the edge of my sightline.
