to skip a stone

there's many ways 

to skip a stone 

across water:

some leap frog gleeful

others oscillate as if a UFO

some make the rings of Saturn 

others make a sign of the cross

before they're fed 

to the watery bottom 

ive been that pebble before

plucked from the shore

to frolic against gravity 

tap dance glass surface   

tearing temporarily from the fabric of space 

before the inevitable plunge  

i send my prayers

to both the stones

that sink to the bottom of the pond

and those that make it across

to the opposite shore
